Great post! Thanks for sharing!

I think you did great for the free tool - but you have to closely examine your "conversion link" to figure out why you didn't make money out of it. It's a fun exercise, and I'd be happy to go through that exercise with you. Cheers.

You are right. I just launched and then never worked on the funnel till I got some traffic. My assumption was that there wasn't something to optimize.

Now, I have constant flow of visitors, and I think, it is time to open PostHog and start analyzing what happens.

I do have sign-ups for the too. But they don't convert to paid.

Who are the "personas" you think might convert, and how do you imagine that conversion flow actually look like? From Google sesrch to paid customer, step by step...

Thanks for asking. You made me think!

In the most abstract sense, somebody who is rendering website screenshots periodically, and needs to automate that process.

For example, a website directory owner periodically makes screenshots of websites and searches "website screenshot online". Hypothetically, I could "capture" them and try to invite/propose to use my solution as an automation.

Once they searched and found the tool. Ideally, they would sign up to try the product and see how they process can be automated.

Then there is an integration step. It can be code or "no code" like Zapier.

Once they integrated and used all free credits, they would be prompted to upgrade.

That's how it currently works in general for many of my blog posts and other marketing channels. But for the tool, I didn't manage to make it work.

My plan is to convert the tool to a sort of landing page, and with a prompt to sign up if they want to automate the process and render screenshots periodically.

What do you think?

Ok, wow, there's a lot to unpack here, and several interesting "threads" to pull on...

For example - which step you think the user get stuck on - realizing the value, or pricing?

I think it is the first step currently. I need to make sure that they understand and know that the free tool they try, could also be integrated into their workflow.

Will start from there and improve the page of the tool, and see if more users sign up.

So, if you think the value is not properly realized - you can focus on that.

for instance - after/during every manual screenshot show a banner or popup that says “congrats! you saved 2 minutes of your time” or something similar.

you can keep a cumulative counter somewhere on the screen (using local storage” to highlight how the value increases, and when a user crosses some time threshold hit them with a message about how they can get even more value by automating.

This craft is mostly psychology, the implementation is usually simple.
